OMG, 600 BMWs for APEC summit delegates! Can I have 1 too? :S
The Apec transport management team is gearing up to welcome summit delegates.
Come next week, their fleet of 600 sleek black cars will be a common sight on the roads, as they whisk Apec delegates from one destination to the next.
Challenges include minimising the waiting time for officials and making sure they arrive on time.
Said Lieutenant Colonel James Liew, head of VIP limousine service, Apec transport sub-committee: “To achieve this, we have worked very closely with the other committees and to integrate our transport plan with their schedules and plans. We have also conducted rehearsals.”
The transport team has prepared for every eventuality – with several contingency cars and recovery vehicles positioned at various locations.
Drivers also had to bone up on their knowledge of the Apec meetings.
Limousine driver Mohd Nazli Johar said: “We are given training on how to drive the new BMWs so we can give our VIPs a smooth ride.” While punctuality is the “most important thing”, fellow driver Patrick Tseng added: “We need to be well-groomed and neat.”
A maintenance team will carry out daily checks to ensure the cars are in the best condition throughout the event.
