Alonso pips Hamilton to dominate Singapore F1 second free practice
Sep 27th

SINGAPORE – Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso stunned Lewis Hamilton to grab the fastest time in the second free practice for the Singapore Grand Prix Friday, driving supremely under lights for the first time.
The British world championship leader was the pace-setter in the first session around the bumpy Marina Bay street circuit and looked to have sewn up the second before Alonso pipped him on the last lap.
The Spaniard hurled his Renault around the track in 1:45.654, 0.098 ahead of the McLaren driver.
It was marginally slower than the 1:45.518 Hamilton drove in the first session.
Felipe Massa in a Ferrari, who is one point behind Hamilton in the title race with four Grand Prix left, was third fastest.
Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen was fourth with Williams’ Nico Rosberg fifth, and BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica six.
Defending champion Kimi Raikkonen came seventh.
Rain pelted Singapore Friday morning but it had cleared by evening with the track dry and the weather hot and humid as the drivers clocked as many laps as possible to familiarise themselves with the circuit and conditions.
Not everyone found the going easy.
Australia’s Mark Webber in a Red Bull became the first Singapore casualty, crashing into the barriers on turn 18 during his fifth lap of the first session. His front right wheel was mangled but he walked away unscathed.
He failed to appear for the second session.
Numerous other cars had close shaves with Rosberg and teammate Kazuki Nakajima both spinning, while Sebastian Vettel, the surprise winner of the last Grand Prix in Italy, lost control of his car twice.
He recovered but could only end 13th.
BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld, Renault’s Nelson Piquet, and Honda’s Rubens Barrichello also had trouble controlling the car on the track.
The very tight left-hand turn 18 was most problematic, but so was the equally tricky turn 7.
Rosberg set the early pace before Hamilton took charge, powering past some of Singapore’s most prominent landmarks in 1:46.080 on his third lap.
The 23-year-old kept chipping away at his time, bettering it twice to stay top until Massa sneaked past him with 15 minutes of the 90-minute session left.
It was a defiant signal by the Brazilian who careered off the track at turn 16 and then did the same just minutes later at turn one, forcing him into the pits.
But Hamilton was too good, grabbing back first place with six minutes left before Alonso came from nowhere to prove there is still life in the 2005 and 2006 champion.

KPE to fully open to traffic this Saturday
Sep 18th
The Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) is finally ready and will be fully opened to traffic this Saturday at 10 am.
Part of the tunnel was opened under the first phase about a year ago.
More than 14,000 light fittings ensure that the transition from the bright sunlight into the KPE tunnel is easy on the eye – while ensuring the interior is well lit.
But once inside, motorists will have to get used to the speed limit of 70 kilometres per hour, much lower than the Central Expressway tunnel’s speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour.
Marcus Karakashian, director, Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway, Land Transport Authority, said: “(The) KPE is not a straight tunnel…the tunnel has some long sweeping bends. There are line of sight issues – high speeds mean long braking distances. If there is an incident around the corner, and you start braking, you are part of the incident.”
Cameras which operate round the clock will help enforce the speed limit.
But if speeds go down, 16 Electronic Road Pricing gantries erected throughout the KPE could be switched on, at some point.
Within the tunnel, there is a whole host of features to ensure this longest road tunnel in Southeast Asia – 9 kilometres in all – stays safe.
Different types of cameras can spot stationary vehicles and people, as well as zoom in on incidents.
All these measures have helped give KPE the green light to open after two years of assessment by an independent team.
But with the recent incident of a photographer fainting in the tunnel during a community event, what is the quality of air inside?
The tunnel has powerful nozzles, which blow in fresh air in the event that carbon monoxide fumes and temperatures build up in the tunnel. They are also far more useful in the event of an incident like a fire, when there is a need to blow in fresh air for people who may be stuck inside the tunnel. And just further down the tunnel, bad air is blown out of the exits to ventilation buildings which are at road surface level.
In addition, a team of nine Traffic Marshalls is deployed round the clock to arrive at an accident spot within eight minutes to control traffic problems.

Anyone gonna test drive on KPE? Careful of cameras =D

The Day Where Everything Goes Wrong
Sep 12th
I’m in office now, cold, wet and shivering while typing this post.
I can’t believe my morning. First I’m late for work, then I got drenched by the heavy rain. Then, when helping someone to deliver a $50 card( as impt as IC) to the addressed person, the card got lost. When I reached office, I checked my hp and noticed that the batt died. What a “great” day.
Now, what’s next I wonder. *sigh*

Bleach Movie 2 Out!
Sep 9th
Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion
Plot:
An artifact known as the “King’s Seal” is stolen during transport from Soul Society by an unidentified Soul Reaper and two arrancar girls who control fire and lighting. Tōshirō Hitsugaya seems to recognize the Soul Reaper, who stabs him in the stomach, and abandons his post to pursue him. Seireitei suspects him of treason and orders his immediate capture, with the possibility of disbanding the 10th Division should he be guilty.
Tōshirō is found unconscious by Ichigo, who knows that Soul Society is looking for him. Tōshirō refuses to explain what’s happening, but Ichigo is attacked by the two arrancar before he can force the issue. Tōshirō continues to avoid capture, and things only look worse when the Soul Reaper thief, identified as Sōjirō Kusaka, uses Hitsugaya’s Hyōrinmaru to injure Shunsui Kyōraku. Tōshirō’s capture is made top priority, and his execution is approved if he resists.
Tōshirō eventually manages to track Sōjirō down, where it is revealed that the two managed to manifest the same zanpakutō. Because this is a taboo in Soul Society, they were forced to fight to the death. It was decided that Tōshirō would be the winner and Sōjirō was apparently killed, only to reincarnate in Hueco Mundo. Seeking revenge on Soul Society, he stole the King’s Seal, which allows the user to freely manipulate time, space, and matter within a small space. Using it, Sōjirō teleports Tōshirō and himself to Soul Society, needing the power of Tōshirō’s bankai to break the seal. When Tōshirō refuses, Sōjirō breaks the seal himself, becoming a dragon made of ice. However, because he lacks the control Tōshirō possesses, the power goes berserk and threatens to destroy Soul Society. With much help, Ichigo and Tōshirō manage to destroy Sōjirō’s dragon form. Returned to his regular form, Sōjirō and Tōshirō have one last clash, ending in Sōjirō’s defeat. Tōshirō is cleared of all charges and the King’s Seal is restored, allowing Tōshirō to finally put his past to rest.
